We're very excited here in Unit 3 to be taking part in the Rocket Science project. The project is in conjunction with ESA, RHS and UK Space Agency.
Two kilograms of rocket (Eruca sativa) seeds were launched on Soyuz 44S on 2nd September 2015 with European Space Agency astronaut Andreas Morgensen and his crew. British ESA astronaut Tim peake took charge of the seeds whilst on the International Space Station (ISS). After being held for approximately six months in microgravity, the seeds have now been returned to Earth.
Now the seeds have returned they have been distributed to schools signed up to the project. Each participating school has received 100 seeds that have been on the ISS and 100 seeds that have remained on Earth. The seed packets have been colour coded, however schools have not been told which packet contains which seeds until national results have been published.
During the up and coming months Mrs Goodridge will be working with children from Unit 3 to carry out various investigations and to record data that will be analysed by professional biostatisticians.
Stay tuned for updates from Mrs Goodridge.
