Reception to Year 6

Shawclough Community Primary School
Thrum Hall Lane

Dear Parents

The school day starts at 8.40 a.m. It is parents who are responsible for ensuring that children arrive on time to start school at 8.40 a.m.

Shawclough also offers all the children the privilege of coming into the classroom from 8.30 a.m.

Parents can also come into school at this time to sort out any issues they may have.

The Early Start Club will start at 7.40 a.m. (not before) each morning. Children who arrive at school before 8.30a.m. will automatically be placed in the Club so that they are safely supervised. No unaccompanied children will be allowed to wait in the front entrance before 8.30 a.m. The cost for using the club is £1.20 per session. A range of fun activities is organised for the children. The children are taken up to their classrooms at 8.30 a.m. They will also be able to purchase breakfast between 7.45 a.m. and 8.15 a.m.

Please understand that all children who arrive before 8.30 a.m. will automatically go into the Early Start Club. (at a cost of £1.20 per session.) If you do not want your child to attend the Early Start Club please ensure they do not arrive in school until 8.30 a.m.

Parents are expected NOT to send their children to arrive at school before 7.40 a.m. The children will not be supervised at that time and are therefore at risk. If you send your child to school before that time you will be putting them into danger.

The actual teaching day is not over until 3.15 p.m.,  I require teachers at Shawclough to teach right up to that time. Please be patient.

If you need your child to be available promptly at 3.15 p.m., for example for an appointment, please let us know in school (there is a form) so that arrangements can be made to release your child to you.

Children remaining in school after 3.30 p.m. without notification will be placed in the Tea-time Club at the parents’ expense (£1.80 per session) from where parents will need to collect them.

If you know you will be late in picking up your child for example because of road traffic, a delayed appointment, please contact school so that arrangements to look after your child can be made to ensure that they are safe in school until you arrive. In normal circumstances such incidents will happen only occasionally.

If you have questions or would like to know more please get in touch with me in school.

Unit 1 parents can enter school through Unit One outside doors.  If Unit 1 parents enter school through the main entrance please walk up to the classroom through the dining room and not through the other classrooms.  Parents from other units should not be using these doors.

  • Blue Class – all parents and children must use the outside  door into Blue Class
  • Turquoise & Purple Classes – all parents and children must use the outside door at the side of Purple Class
  • Lavender Class – all parents and children must use the outside entrance at the side of Lavender Class

Unit 2/3/4/ parents can collect their children from the Dining Room.  Older children may be allowed to walk home with parents’ permission.  Some parents of older children wait outside of school.  Please ensure your child knows exactly where you will be.

Thank you.
