Shawclough Primary School is home to the Rainbow Provision for children on the Autistic Spectrum.

The Rainbow Provision provides a nurturing environment with access to a mainstream curriculum and peers who act as role models for social, communication and interaction. We provide enhanced facilities and a highly experienced team of staff who tailor the curriculum to meet the individual needs of all children.

We create a calming environment for children with low class sizes, high adult ratios and resources to support children with:

  • Social, communication and interaction
  • Occupational therapy needs

Testimonies from Parents and external agencies that have worked with our Rainbow provision:

When Dylan started school he found it extremely difficult and needed a lot of support. It seemed impossible that he would ever settle in and enjoy school life. Dylan was never excluded from anything and instead was supported throughout by dedicated staff, and is now thriving in his education. He enjoys school, is predicted great grades at GCSE and aspires to be an actor. Dylan recently returned to Shawclough School for work experience… Something that highlighted how far he had come. Dylan would not be where he is now if it wasn’t for the schools passion about inclusion.’ (Parent)

The Rainbow Unit didn’t only support George, they supported all of us as a family...his attendance at the Rainbow Unit was the turning point in what had previously been quite a negative journey' (Parent)

.‘I am writing to express my heartfelt appreciation for the exceptional education and support that my daughter Ines has received from your school…I am particularly impressed by the school’s efficient management of various aspects such as school transport, visits, parties, and parental relationships, in addition to their daily duties.’ (Parent)

we left Shawclough inspired and ready to recreate what we had experienced in their wonderful provision’ (external agency)

‘Ruairi’s attendance.. has brought positive changes not only to him but to our family also, with a vision for a brighter and hopeful future.. this wonderful environment enables its pupils to realise they can grow, develop and be seen for what they are-Equals.’ (Parent)
