Nursery & Unit One
In Unit One and Nursery we will introduce the school drivers through dinosaur toys. Each dinosaur will represent a Characteristic of Learning/ school driver. The dinosaurs will be introduced one at a time. Nursery will introduce 3 dinosaurs, 1 for each of the three areas of the Characteristics of Learning. Unit One will introduce 9 dinosaurs, 3 for each of the three areas. They will hatch out of an egg and then be introduced to the children by name e.g. Triatops. The children will then have a discussion about why he is called that and what that will look like in their learning. When the children demonstrate this in their learning they will be able to get the dinosaur they need and have a picture taken for their file. Underneath the picture we will also write what learning has taken place. The drivers will be discussed throughout lessons and continuous provision. We will also get parents involved by asking them to carry out small activities at home.

Unit Two Drivers
In Unit Two we continue to develop the school drivers by focussing on one driver per half-term. We discuss each driver in turn with the children. Teacher’s plans include the focus driver and the staff plan lessons such as Market Place, Carousel activities and Learning Log tasks so the children can practise their skills.
The children know what the staff are looking for in each lesson and during our Friday unit assemblies we celebrate the children’s successes. The children are awarded special stickers and their photographs are taken to place in our special driver book.
